Here is one Fargo-like, fact-based crime drama, starring an almost unrecognizable Renee Zellweger. It has received mixed reviews from Stateside, but it must be worth a look.

In this set, she plays Pam Hupp, a self-proclaimed ‘businesswoman’ who is arrested for murder.

On December 27, 2011, in Troy, Missouri, Betsy Faria, a former employee of Hupp who has terminal cancer, was found dead in her home.

Police immediately suspected her husband, Russ. Her friend, the house flipper Pam Hupp, was the last person to see Betsy that night, after insisting on driving her home.

She made several alibis by strategically calling her husband, Mark, and Betsy’s mother, Janet, a few hours before Betsy was discovered.

While Russ tells the police that Pam was good friends with Betsy, Pam troublesomely tries to make them suspicious of Russ.

Kidman was nominated for a BAFTA, winning a Golden Globe Award and Best Actress at the 1st Empire Awards for her performance as Suzanne Stone.

Stone is a narcissist who is obsessed with the TV and celebrity world, and no one is allowed to get in her way when she sets out to create a career for herself.

Stephen Frears ‘Oscar-winning drama on sexual politics, based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel.
