What is ITVX? Launch date, if the streaming platform is free and which shows will be on it

ITV has announced that it is replacing the online ITV Hub with a brand new streaming platform called ITVX.

Launching on December 8, 2022, the new service is designed to provide an enhanced user experience for viewers. It is expected to stream exclusive programs, along with existing shows.

ITVX will also launch full seasons of ITV shows on their first day of broadcast, allowing viewers to catch up on shows when they couldn’t before.

How much will an ITVX subscription cost?

ITVX will offer viewers the flexibility to access free content with ads, along with the option of paid ad-free subscriptions.

The price of the premium subscription has yet to be announced, but ad-free subscribers will also have access to BritBox UK, which currently costs £5.99 a month.

At the time of the initial unveiling, Carolyn McCall, ITV’s chief executive, said: “ITVX will be a free-to-air service supported by advertising, with a compelling subscription proposition.

“This is fantastic for viewers – it will provide a simplified and seamless experience with thousands of hours of free content consisting of both library and original exclusive content.

“The subscription tier will provide a premium offering and includes all content ad-free as well as BritBox and future SVOD content partners.

“We are supercharging our streaming business, fundamentally changing our focus to think digital first, as well as optimizing our broadcast channels, continuing to attract unprecedented mass audiences.

“By doing this we are responding to changing viewing habits, but also the changing needs of our advertisers. This will enable ITV to continue to be both commercial viewers and advertisers’ first choice.”

What programs will be shown on ITVX?

McCall has explained that the new platform is powered by a significant, streaming-first commissioning budget.

She said: “We are very excited to launch ITVX, with more content available than ever before and a whole range of exclusive commissions.”

Period drama The The Confessions of Frannie Langton also premieres on December 8, alongside Plebs: Soldiers of Rome – a special feature film finale of the popular comedy series.

ITVX will also stream at least one flagship a week, these include: Litvinenko, Wealth, A year on planet earth, Without sin, Loaded in paradise and Nolly.
