House of Gucci was definitely one of the most interesting projects Hollywood has put out in recent years, for both good and bad reasons. Nevertheless, the intrigue behind the real story and the uneven film itself has captured the public interest, as the film led by Lady Gaga and Adam Driver is currently in the top ten on Amazon Video’s streaming lists. So, is this strange project worth checking out yourself? The answer is – probably?
First, let’s start with the cast House of Gucci. It’s pretty stacked overall, so you would expect the performances to be good, and you would be pretty much right. For the most part, the positive reviews of the film praise the performance first and foremost, although not all cast members receive much praise. Lady Gaga and Adam Driver direct the film as Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci. The film follows their tumultuous romantic relationship, the battle for the Gucci company and the possible murder of Maurizio by assassins hired by Patrizia. The film also features performances from Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Robert de Niro, Jack Huston, Salma Hayek, Camille Cottin, Reeve Carney and Jared Leto in about £ 100 with makeup and dentures. The most mixed performance reviews are given to the typically eccentric Jared Leto, with some people enjoying his over-the-top performance and others being completely confused by it. Something that at this point is hardly surprising from Morbius actor.
For the most part, reviews of the film say that the tone is inconsistent and uneven. This makes sense, given the continuous behind-the-scenes changes leading up to the film. The first seeds to House of Gucci was planted way back in 2006, with Ridley Scott attached to the director. This version would have seen Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead roles that Lady Gaga and Adam Driver eventually took on. The project was not resumed until 2012, when Ridley Scott’s daughter, Jordan Scott, was linked to the director instead. Wong Kar-wai was then linked to directing in 2016 before Ridley Scott was linked to directing again in 2019. It definitely looks like protect went through a few too many changes to make it a clear vision behind it. Scott directed the film we got, with Becky Johnston and Roberto Bentivegna writing the final version of the script. The script was based on the wild true story told in the book The House of Gucci: A sensational story of murder, madness, glamor and greed by Sara Gay Forden.
While the reception to House of Gucci could not have been more mixed, it did quite well in the box office despite the fact that it was a movie from the pandemic era. It managed to raise over $ 156 million worldwide and became the best opening for a drama film since 2019. Little women. This is probably partly from the largely positive audience reception. While critics were quite harsh on the film, the audience was a little more friendly, with the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes at 83%. As expected, Lady Gaga’s behavior was one of the most important positive aspects pointed out in the reviews. The film managed to be nominated for one Oscar, fittingly enough, for best makeup and hair styling. For a film about one of the world’s most famous fashion houses, it would be a disappointment if they did not win this nomination. Gucci boss Marco Bizzarri mentioned that the film production gained access to Gucci’s archives for wardrobes and props, which helped increase the authenticity of the costume.
One of the biggest draws of this film is the fact that it is based on a true story. Although the film probably does not capture the truth with 1: 1 accuracy, it depicts the broad lines while adding some dramatic flourishes. The true story of the Gucci family is really wild, so it’s honestly worth checking out the movie just to see it dramatized by some of today’s best actors. Despite the uneven tone, Lady Gaga and Adam Driver who play these real characters are hard to ignore as a selling point. If you’re at all interested in watching this story play out or checking out Lady Gaga’s latest knockout appearance, then this movie is well worth streaming on Prime Video.
