Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’ comes to UK streaming next week

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvisthe critically acclaimed biographical musical drama, will be available to watch on TV via digital streaming next week, less than two months after its release in UK cinemas.

Elvislike stars Austin Butler as King Rock and Roll, comes to digital VOD stores both as Premium Rental and for digital purchase at August 8, 2022.

The movie is already available for pre-order on Amazon’s Prime Video, priced at £19.99 (at the time of writing). We assume that the price is currently for the Digital Purchase option, and not a rental.

The DVD and Blu-ray editions of Elvis will air on September 19, 2022 (see below for bonuses and special features on the Blu-ray edition).

The shooting of the film started back in 2020, but was delayed – like many other films – due to the pandemic. Eventually, the film was released in the US and UK on June 24, 2022.

Elvis was a huge success with both critics and audiences, becoming the second highest-grossing music biography of all time behind Bohemian Rhapsody.

Elvis Presley’s story is a thoroughly cinematic drama, and is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks).

Narrated by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamics between the two spanning 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.

Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’ life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

In the US, the film will be available at no extra cost from August 8 HBO Maxa streaming service that includes shows and movies from DC, HBO, Universal Pictures, WarnerBros and others.

How to watch Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis online in the UK

In Great Britain, Elvis will be available on the digital platforms on Monday 8 August.

According to Warner, it will be available that day both as a Premium Rental and for digital purchase.

Premium Rentals (also known as Home Premiere) offer movies that were recently available in theaters, therefore the costs are higher than regular digital rentals.

As with all video rentals, once you start playing a digital rental, you only have 48 hours to complete the display.

A digital purchase allows you to “own” and stream the digital copy of the film indefinitely, via the VOD store you purchased it from.

The price is still a bit unclear – the pre-order price of Elvis on Prime Video is £19.99. We assume that’s the price for the purchase option, with the Digital Rental option coming on the day (presumably for £15.99).

Former Premium Rentals from Warner Bros., such as The Matrix Resurrections and Wonder Woman 1984, costing £15.99 for their home premiere.

  • Rock ‘N Roll Royalty: The Music & Artists Behind Elvis

Is Elvis coming to Netflix in the UK?

Typically, movies tend to jump from digital VOD stores to subscription streaming services a few months after they’re released for purchase (though sometimes it takes even longer).

But in the UK, new Warner Bros. films tend to end up on Sky and theirs streaming service, NOW – and not on Netflix. That was the case with The Suicide Squad, Dune and others in recent years.
