“Rise” Disney + social media first reactions – What happens at Disney Plus

Next Friday, Disney’s latest sports drama, “Rise”, will be released on Disney + Friday 24. June 2022. “Rise” is based on the triumphant reality story of the remarkable family that produced the first trio of brothers to become NBA champions in league history – Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Laker Kostas Antetokounmpo, and their younger brother Alex.
After emigrating from Nigeria to Greece, Charles and Vera Antetokounmpo (Dayo Okeniyi and Yetide Badaki, respectively) fought to survive and support their five children while living under the daily threat of deportation. With their eldest son still in Nigeria with relatives, the couple was desperate for Greek citizenship, but found themselves undermined by a system that blocked them every time. When not selling goods to tourists on the streets of Athens with the rest of the family, the brothers – Giannis (Uche Agada) and Thanasis (Ral Agada) – played basketball with a local youth team. Descendants of the sport discovered their great abilities on the basketball court and worked hard to become world-class athletes, along with their brother Kostas (Jaden Osimuwa). With the help of an agent, Giannis entered the NBA Draft in 2013 in a long-term prospect that would change not only his life, but the lives of his entire family. And last season, Giannis and Thanasis helped bring the Milwaukee Bucks’ first championship ring in 50 years, while Kostas played for last season’s champions, the Los Angeles Lakers.
The embargo for the early reactions on social media has been lifted, and here are some of the highlighted early reviews:
Disneys #Ladder falls on #disneyplus this Friday and is a beautiful story about the Antetokounmpos family, who will do whatever it takes to fulfill their dreams. Even if you do not like basketball like me, did not sleep on this one, I liked it. It’s charming and a great family movie pic.twitter.com/vzW6MUXNWx

#LADDER is so much more than a basketball movie. The story of the Antetokounmpo family is inspiring whether you know the brothers or not. It encourages everyone to pursue their dreams, go into the unknown and never forget the value of family (and those who like family). pic.twitter.com/dzwDzEGWWn

RISE is not just a sports movie, but it is the incredible story of the Antetokounmpo family and the sacrifices they made together to become basketball royals. Humble beginnings can not stop hard work, dedication and faith. An inspiring story where nice boys do not come last.#LADDER pic.twitter.com/Kyj8b1QANK

#Ladder is simple but effective. A movie that is good enough to be called a Disney + Original movie. It is inspiring enough to let the target group continue to fight for their dreams. I would have loved a more developed story given the “uphill battle” to the Antetokounmpo family. pic.twitter.com/BaljYBy4Y5

#DisneyPlus‘ny film #LADDER is not really about basketball, but explores Antetokounmpo’s journey, the value of family and what it means to chase your dreams; surely inspire many others to do the same. pic.twitter.com/mOV4K4Xd61
