New movies and TV series in November 2022

Some of the most anticipated projects in recent Disney+ UK history arrive this month, with Amy Adams finally reprising her role as a real-world Disney princess for Disenchanted. Warwick Davis is also back in the title role in Willow — a TV follow-up to the cult fantasy film from the 1980s.

This month also presents the first couple of festive specials on the way to the service, as well as a couple of documentary series from the A-list. David Beckham takes on a struggling football team in East London, while Chris Hemsworth embarks on an intrepid journey around the world.

See how they run (November 2)

Following its UK big screen release earlier this year, this theatrical whodunnit is coming to streaming for those who missed the cinema. Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan play the detectives who hunt down the killer responsible for murdering an American film director who plans to make a film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stage hit The mousetrap.

British director Tom George has an exceptional ensemble cast, balancing big Hollywood names with some of Britain’s best comedy talent – including Georges This country star Charlie Cooper.

The fire of love (November 11th)

Sara Dosa’s loving, romantic documentary about volcanologist couple Katia and Maurice Krafft has caused quite a stir since it debuted earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival. It uses archival footage of the couple’s pioneering volcano research to illuminate the story of their adventurous life, as well as their love for each other.

Disenchanted (November 18)

In 2007, Amy Adams charmed us all with her role as Giselle – an animated fairy tale princess transplanted into the real live-action world. Returning director Kevin Lima’s sequel will explore the notion of what “happily ever after” really means, and delve into her relationship with Patrick Dempsey’s character. Maya Rudolph is on villainous duties or the sequel, with the plot revolving around a wish gone wrong.

Mickey: The Story of a Mouse (November 18)

One of the most recognizable characters in the history of popular culture, Mickey Mouse is the ultimate mascot for the Disney brand. This feature film by Jeff Malmberg explores the animated rodent’s rise to fame and his astonishing lifespan.

Given that Disney+ has already hosted some fascinating documentaries where the company talks about itself – including The Imagineering Story – This may be worth looking into.

Restart (all episodes November 2)

From the mind to Modern family From creator Steven Levitan, this series follows the dysfunctional stars of a fictional noughties sitcom as they try to get back together to take part in a reboot of their show.

Judy Greer, Keegan-Michael Key, Rachel Bloom and Jackass star Johnny Knoxville is among the members of the ensemble cast.

Save our team with David Beckham (all episodes November 9)

David Beckham returns to his roots in this documentary series, taking on a coaching job at struggling East London football club Westward Boys. They are trying to gain a foothold in the Echo Junior Premier League, where he himself started out as a boy before the bright lights of Wembley shone down on him.

Given the success Disney+ has had with football-themed series Welcome to Wrexhamthe ingredients are there for this to be a fun, emotional watch.

Zootropolis+ (November 9)

Disney’s 2016 animated film Zootropolis – referred to as Zootopia pretty much everywhere else in the world – was one of the studio’s most inventive recent outings.

It’s no surprise, then, that the company is returning to that world, populated entirely by animals, for this selection of shorts that follow minor characters during the events of the film.

Limitless with Chris Hemsworth (all episodes November 16)

When he’s not wielding a big old ax and taking on god-slaughtering supervillains like Thor, Chris Hemsworth likes to push himself. This series follows his worldwide journey to improve himself and help himself live longer by taking on great endurance challenges.

The Santa Clauses (all episodes November 16)

Scott Calvin has now been Santa for a long time. Since he accidentally took on the role in the 1994 family classic Santa Claus, he has thrown himself headlong into the job. But now it is time for him to retire.

Tim Allen returns to play Santa Claus in this limited continuation of the franchise – 16 years after the ill-received threequel – while Scott tries to choose a successor.

Tell me lies (all episodes November 16)

Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel is the inspiration for this 10-part thriller series, which follows a toxic relationship that unfolds over the course of eight years. Grace Van Patten and Jackson White play the central couple, whose actions have a huge impact on each other and the people around them.

The patient (all episodes November 30)

Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson lead this intense thriller franchise, with Carell playing a therapist who is kidnapped and imprisoned by one of his patients – a serial killer played by Gleeson. Carell’s character is told that he has a chance to escape alive, if he can teach his captor how to get past his urge to kill.

Willow (weekly from 30 November)

Warwick Davis first played the titular wizard Willow in Ron Howard’s 1988 film, which became a cult hit after unspectacular box office returns. The character is now set to return, with this new series following Willow as he leads a misfit group of heroes on a dramatic and dangerous rescue mission.

Best in snow (TBC November)

Comedian and host Tituss Burgess and Kermit the Frog are among the stars set to appear in this one-off special, which follows a group of talented snow groomers as they compete to create the best frosty representation of a Disney character.

The Hip-Hop Nutcracker (TBC November)

New York City sets the scene for this reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet, which follows the main character as she is transplanted into fantasy worlds and enlists the help of a magical toymaker as she tries to reunite her parents.

Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers (TBC November)

One of the biggest and most recognizable franchises in American sports, the LA Lakers are the jewel in the basketball crown. This series follows the early days of the brand and its rise to the top, via its association with big names like Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant.
