The actress who plays Hera Syndulla in Ahsoka on Disney+ has reportedly been revealed.
Ahsoka Tano may be the lead in her upcoming Disney+ series, but Star Wars fans are just as excited about her supporting characters, the live-action versions of the cast of Star Wars: Rebels.
In addition to Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka, the 2023 series is shaping up to be a quasi-sequel to the Star Wars animated show that ran from 2014-2018 and centered on the rebel crew of Ghost.
But throughout 2022, Lucasfilm remained silent on who had been cast to play a key Rebels character, the Twi’lek pilot and rebel leader, Hera Syndulla.
That is, until now.
Hera Syndulla actress revealed
As reported by Bespin Bulletin, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been cast to play the live-action version of Hera Syndulla in Ahsoka for Disney+.
Back in January, it was revealed that Lucasfilm had cast the actress in the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series, but her role was unknown.
While Winstead is known for her roles in Fargo and Birds of preyshe is no stranger to that galaxy far, far away since she is in a relationship with Ewan McGregor, the star of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Hera Syndulla has been seen in one Ahsoka teaser at Star Wars Celebration. However, her character was only shown from behind, adding to the mystery of who Lucasfilm had cast and teasing what’s to come.
Hera Syndulla was previously voiced by Vanessa Marshall in the animated show.
Hera’s story and her live-action role
While Star Wars fans haven’t seen or heard much about the Rebels crew since the show ended, the same can’t be said for Hera.
Fans actually saw her, as a child living on Ryloth, in a Season 1 episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
And while Winstead will be the first to play her in live-action, her character has had a presence in other live-action Star Wars stories. Her name could be heard over a speaker inside Rogue One: A Star Wars Storyand her ship, the Ghostwas seen in The Rise of Skywalker.
Whereas the scope of Winstead’s role and all that Ahsoka has in store for Hera remains to be seen, Star Wars Rebels fans know she had a son, Jacen Syndulla, with Kanan Jarrus before his death on Lothal. Hera then went on to fight in the rebellion against the Empire.
Just how her son, and her own story, will contribute to the hunt for Ezra will be interesting to see.
Ahsoka will debut on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
