RBSE Class 10 English Exam 2023 Syllabus

  1. Reading
    • Two unseen passages of a total of 350 words with a series of questions including 4 marks for

Only prose pieces will be used. One will be factual and the other will be discursive.

Passage 1-100 words (6 marks), six comprehension questions

(2 multiple choice questions, 2 comprehension questions testing local and global understanding, 2 vocabulary questions – one tests knowledge of similar words and the other tests knowledge of the opposite word)

  • Passage2—250 words (9 marks), nine comprehension questions

(3 multiple-choice questions, 4 comprehension questions that test local and global understanding, 2 vocabulary questions – one tests knowledge of similar words and the other of opposite words)

  1. Writing
    • Letter writing – one of two (word limit 80)
      • Personal – To friends, relatives and family members.
      • Official – To civil servants, the editor of a newspaper or magazine, the principal/principal
      • Email – To family, friends, relatives, government. officials, the editor, teachers, principal, principal and so on
  • To write a short story about a given
  • A short writing task based on a verbal or a visual stimulus (picture, diagram, table) with internal choice of approx. 60 words.
  1. Grammar

A series of short questions involving the use of specific structures in a context. Test types used will include-

*gap filling, *sentence completion, *sentence transformation (including putting sentences together).

The grammar syllabus will include the following areas of teaching—

  1. Tense (simple present, present continuous, present perfect, simple

  2. Conjunctions (and, as well as, not only-but also, both-and, either-or, neither-or, so-that, also-to, though, while, yet)
  3. Relative pronouns
  4. Active and passive voice
  5. Question framing and question labels
  6. Textbooks:

      • Two excerpts from different prose lessons included in the approx. 100 words each with the following type of questions—

Six questions in each section:

2 multiple choice questions, 2 comprehension questions testing local and global understanding, 2 vocabulary questions – one tests knowledge of similar words and the other of opposite words.

  • One out of two questions is extrapolatingly based on one of the prose lessons from the textbook, which must be answered in approx.
  • One of two questions about drama text (local and global comprehension questions) of approx. 20
  • First Flight — Poetry
    • One of two excerpts — based on poetry from the text to test understanding and
  • Two out of three questions about interpretations of themes and ideas in the poems must be answered with approximately 20 words each.
  • Footprint Without Feet — Supplementary Reader
    • One of two questions from the Supplementary Reader to interpret, evaluate and analyze character, plot or situations that arise in the lessons must be answered in approx.
    • Two out of three questions on interpretation and assessment of nature based on lessons to be answered in 20 words
    • Two multiple choice questions used on factual aspects of the lessons.
