Shangri-La Frontier Manga gets anime and games
The Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Nidoman tosu ~ manga av Katarina and Ryousuke Fuji gets an anime and video game customization. A four-minute pre-animated project trailer and visualization has been released, with the former with the main character’s full dive into the title Shangri-La Frontier games, the different characters and some action.
The Shangri-La Frontier anime will premiere in 2023. Staff includes Toshiyuki Kubooka (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) as director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) as a series composer and screenwriter, Hiroki Ikeshita (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina storyboarder and episode director) as assistant director, Ayumi Kurashima (Nomad: Megalo Box 2 character designer) as a character designer and head of animation, and Satoshi Sakai (The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light action animation director) as an action and effect animator.
Other credits include Takagi Masato (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) as a color designer, Inspired as a background art company, Hikaru Yamamoku (ONE PIECE Vol.100 / Ep.1000 Celebration Films “WE ARE ONE.” assistant photography director) as photography director, and MONACA (Assassins Pride) as a music composer. C2C is the animation production company.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Yuuma Uchida as Senraku / Rakuro Hizutome, Azumi Waki as Saiga-0 / Rei Saiga, Youko Hikasa as Arthur Pencilgon / Towa Amane, Makoto Koichi as Oicazzo / Rei Omi, Rina Hidaka as Emul, and Akio Ootsuka as Weiss Ash.
Kadokawa-published Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Nidoman tosu ~ began in 2020 and has eight tankoubon volumes from April 2022. It is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine and published under the KC Deluxe label. The manga is based on the online novel by Katarina, which began in 2017 and is published on Shoustuka ni Narou.
The story is set a bit in the future, where games that use screens are considered retro, and a large number of “crappy games” are struggling to catch up with the latest VR technology. Rakuro Hizutome, “Crappy Game Hunter”, dedicates himself to these “crappy games”, but one day he tries the very popular “divine game” called Shangri-La Frontier.
