Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming reboot, including possible premise, release window, voice cast and more.
What will the ‘Trigun Stampede’ be about?
Before we dive into the trailer, here’s a quick refresher on Trigun. The anime series is set on a fictional planet called No Man’s Land and revolves around the feared outlaw Vash the Stampede. Vash constantly engages in battles with bounty hunters, as they seek to claim the huge bounty attached to him – but all efforts fail. Despite being a skilled gunslinger, Vash does not indulge in unnecessary violence, as he is somewhat of a pacifist at heart, avoiding conflict whenever he can.
The Trigun Stampede the trailer opens with Vash and his twin brother, Knives, entering an escape pod. Rem, who is the guardian and caretaker of the brothers, stays behind to help them get to safety. Fast forward a couple of years, an older Vash is on his way to becoming a feared gunman, and we see wanted posters with his face appearing at several points in the trailer. An older Knives ponders how his brother hasn’t changed, while Vash promises he’ll never kill again.
Although it is too early to speculate, Trigun Stampede can delve into Vash’s past, tracing his character arc by explaining why he has a “no-kill” attitude despite being a gunslinger. His relationship with Knives will also play a central role, and we can get many glimpses of the kind, emotionally vulnerable man Vash really is.
Vash sashays in with a new look
In the original manga and anime series, Vash has a ’90s hairstyle, with his blonde hair spiked up. In the trailer, Vash is more of a wavy blonde, and his trademark six-shooter has been replaced with an eight-shot barrel with a gray finish. In fact, Vash’s spiky hair used to be a major distinguishing feature in the manga, as it earned him the nickname “Pinhead,” but the reboot seems to be taking a new approach when it comes to his signature look.
However, the reboot stays true to Vash’s anime design, as the trailer shows him with a cybernetic prosthetic arm with a built-in weapon system. Trigun Stampede Vash also wears his signature long, crimson trench coat, with knee-high combat boots that have retractable blades mounted in them. The trailer also features Vash wearing bright amber glasses, which are also part of his original look.
‘Trigun Stampede’ voting and drop window
The voice cast for Trigun Stampede includes Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Vash the Stampede), Junya Ikeda (Knives), Maaya Sakamoto (Rem), and Tomoyo Kurosawa (young Vash), and Yumiri Hanamoru (young Knives).
While we don’t have an official breakdown for the reboot, the story of the original is here Trigun anime has been summarized:
“Vash the Stampede is a wanted man with a habit of turning entire towns to rubble. The price on his head is a fortune, and his path of destruction stretches across the dry wastelands of a desert planet. Unfortunately, most encounters with the spiky-haired gunslinger don’t end well for the bounty hunters who catch him; someone almost always gets hurt—and it’s never Vash. Strangely, for such a notorious fugitive, there is no evidence that he ever took a life. In fact, he’s a pacifist with a donut obsession that’s more stupid than desperado. There’s a lot more to him than his reputation lets on – Vash the Stampede is definitely not your typical outlaw.”
An official release date has not been attached Trigun Stampede at the moment, but the anime series is expected to be released sometime in 2023.
