Pokémon Anime Series: The Pokémon Company’s upcoming Pokémon anime series: Ash and Pikachu will not be main characters

Ash and Pikachu will not be the main characters in The Pokémon Company’s upcoming Pokémon anime series. This will happen for the first time in 25 years.

Instead, the new show, which follows Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series and debuts in 2023, will have two heroes named Liko and Roy, in the Japanese version. The three Paldea starter Pokémon Fuecoco, Sprigatito and Quaxly are also expected to be featured prominently.

What does this mean for Ash Ketchum, our former hero?

The beloved hero has cemented his position as the best Pokémon trainer in the world by winning the Pokémon World Coronation Series Masters Eight Tournament and eliminating all his rivals.

Ash and Go’s journey together will conclude Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series in Japan, but we’ll also be getting a bunch of extra episodes to celebrate Ash and Pikachu’s 25 years of adventure. Although the official release refers to this as the “final chapter” for Ash and Pikachu, it also states that these episodes will “offer a look at what the future may hold” for Ash.
