The official Twitter account for Dropkick my devil! (Jashin-chan Dropkick) TV anime announced on Saturday that the anime’s crowdfunding project has raised 60,800,166 yen (about $446,900) from 1,326 backers, about 200% of its goal of 30 million yen (about $220,600). The campaign still has 26 days left as of press time.
The project reached its original goal of ¥30 million within 35 minutes of the crowdfunding campaign being launched on November 30. It ends on January 13, 2023.
The overall goal of franchise is to crowdfund enough episodes to create an entire fourth season with the title Dropkick my devil! NEXT (Jashin-chan Dropkick NEXT). The staff explained that to make acourse (quarterly) anime, the production cost is approximately ¥300 million (approximately US$2.153 million). The staff explained that they don’t have “the power to raise that kind of capital,” so the first goal is to launch a crowdfunding campaign for a new OVA episode. The goal is 30 million yen (about US$215,000) to produce one episode. The crowdfunding campaign will add one more episode for every additional ¥30 million raised, with plans to screen the episodes at events and stream the episodes. A “Jashin-chan Festival” event is planned for May 4, 2023.
If the campaign (or campaigns) manage to raise enough money to produce 12 episodes, the episodes will be compiled and will air as a fourth season of the overall anime.
The first anime season premiered in July 2018. Anime is streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in and outside of Japan. Amazon Prime Video premiered its final bonus episode in October 2018. The second season, Dropkick on my devil!! Hyphenpremiered in April 2020 with 11 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed all 11 episodes of the season.
Dropkick my devil! Xthe third season of the anime, premiered on July 5. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
The third season of the anime also had a successful crowdfunding campaign that launched in September 2020 and ended in December 2020. 2,880 backers raised ¥36,181,238 (approximately US$351,100) for that campaign. A campaign backer pledged 1.1 million yen (about US$10,000) to create the season’s title, explaining that the title expresses devotion to the hope that “Yurine and Jashin-chan will continue to cross paths and fight forever.”
Yukiwo launched the original manga in Flex Comix’s online magazine Comic Meteor in April 2012, and the series is ongoing.
