Shinobi No Ittoki Season 2 Renewal Status Explained
As previously mentioned, Shinobi No Ittoki has yet to be officially renewed for Season 2 by Studio Troyca or DMM Pictures, the production teams behind the anime series.
Unfortunately, it is still quite difficult to gauge the renewal chances of the Shinobi No Ittoki anime due to the fact that the series is an original production, i.e. there is no manga or light novel to be adapted for TV.
This means that the production teams must decide whether the success of the series is worth enough for the necessary resources needed to animate a completely original second season; a factor that often depends on international popularity to get funding.
As noted by AnimeGeek, “Although the story lends itself to a sequel, it’s hard to say if the anime production committee (TMS Entertainment, Toy’s Factory, DMM, NetEase, Vobile) will renew Shinobi no Ittoki for a second season since international streaming revenue is the single greatest factor influencing financial success today.”
What worries fans of the anime is that Shinobi No Ittoki has experienced a decidedly mixed to poor reception from international fans. The series currently scores a rather disappointing 6.08/10 on MyAnimeList; just make it 41St-rated anime from autumn 2022.
Similar scores can be seen on various user-based feedback sites, including just 6.6/10 on IMDB, 59% on Anilist, and 3/5 on Anime Planet. Top reviews on both MyAnimeList and IMDB are also decidedly negative; with scores of 5/10 and 4/10 respectively:
“I was really excited for this anime when the first trailer dropped, it showed some blood and good action, but the second trailer just threw my expectations away with the ‘school scenario’. And now, after watching a few episodes, I can for sure say this anime is very boring and cliche.” – User review, via IMDB.
Also, the anime was only able to achieve a top position of 18 on the ongoing AniTrendz fan polls.
Overall, it would be a surprise, albeit a welcome one, if Shinobi No Ittoki returned for a second season; however, if the anime is renewed for a new mission, don’t expect it to premiere until at least fall 2023.
