Anime characters are notorious for loudly screaming and announcing the names of their attacks in the heat of battle. However, many characters let their actions speak for themselves. Whether it’s in love or battle, these anime characters say a lot in ways other than talking.
Many of these characters are stoic, quiet people who prefer to show their devotion and power through their deeds. Others are a lot of talkers, but let their actions speak for them when it comes to matters closer to their hearts. Either way, by choice or necessity, these anime characters say most things without saying a word.
10/10 Satoru Fujinuma tells Kayo to come over
Satoru Fujinuma is a reserved underemployed man in the show Deleted when he unwittingly travels back in time to his fifth grade self. Realizing that he has a chance to save his former crush, Kayo Hinazuki, and others from a terrible fate, Satoru does his best to protect Kayo, despite being eleven.
Since he can’t tell people about his ability to time travel, Satoru does subtle (and some not-so-subtle) things to keep Kayo away from the monster that killed her in Satoru’s memory. Satoru does this by inviting Kayo to his house, as well as hiding her in a bus when her home life gets too bad. Although there is not much he can say about his unique position, Satoru shows that he cares with kindness.
9/10 Takeo Gouda acts before he can think
My love story!!
Although Takeo Gouda is not the calmest character in My love story!!he tends to act before anyone gets a word in. Takeo’s incredible athleticism routinely helps people in many contexts, from filling positions on a team to saving people from a burning building.
Takeo also shows his affection for his girlfriend in the same way. Nervous that he might get too strong, Takeo makes sure to eat all the treats she gives him with enthusiasm – just to show how much he appreciates the effort she puts into making each delicious treat. Takeo may be loud, but his actions speak louder than his actions.
8/10 Loid Forger’s emotions betray his mission
Spy X family
Although Special Agent Twilight is a spy in the Spy X family, his emotions often betray him when in his undercover persona as Loid Forger. Loid tries to remain stoic and unattached to his new daughter and wife, but nevertheless he finds himself unexpectedly enjoying the little family he has created.
Lloyd’s biggest emotional break usually occurs when his adopted daughter, Anya, makes important achievements. Although he may not say it, Loid regards Anya as his own daughter, of whom he is immensely proud.

6/10 Katsuki Bakugo cares more than he lets on
My Hero Academia
When people first think of Katsuki Bakugo from My Hero Academia, they wouldn’t label him as someone who doesn’t show his emotions. But while Bakugo masks his true feelings by yelling all the time, his actions certainly speak to them.
When Shoto Todoroki refuses to fight Bakugo with his full power during the Tournament Arc, Bakugo reveals his disappointment by trying to goad Todoroki into fighting again. Then, when he and Todoroki fail the licensing exams, Bakugo is rarely seen, as he’s either training or resting – determined to save face in his second attempt. Bakugo shows his anger, but his other emotions come out in what he does, rather than what he says.
5/10 Son Hak says it all through his defense of Yona
Yona of dawn
Like Bakugo, Son Hak from Yona of dawn is a lot of talk. He regularly teases Princess Yona for her privilege and naive outlook on life. Still, as danger approaches, Hak shows how much he cares for Yona in the lengths he goes to protect her.
Hak and Yona have a closer bond than most guards and nobles. However, Hak feels more for Yona than he first admits. Whether fighting enemy troops or helping her bandage injuries, Hak Yona shows moments of affection that he is too afraid to acknowledge out loud.
4/10 Tadaomi Karasuma lets his emotions shine on occasion
Tadaomi Karasuma is a special agent turned physical education instructor Assassin’s Classroom. Karasuma is a no-nonsense man who takes his job of training the students of Class 3-E to be assassins very seriously. However, Karasuma shows his true feelings from time to time in subtle but poignant ways.
Many of his interactions with his fellow teacher, Irina Yelovich, have romantic subtexts that are almost imperceptible. But the patience he shows her – despite her complaints – speaks to his true feelings. Karasuma also shows his pride in his students by letting them participate in missions. He may not be the most talkative, but he shows that he cares in subtle ways.
3/10 Hirotaka Nifuji uses small gestures and text messages to show his affection
Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku
Hirotaka Nifuji is a quiet and efficient office worker from Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku who would rather spend their time playing than doing anything else. When Hirotaka finally works up to asking Narumi out, he does his best to show her he cares through various deeds. He waits for her to finish work, willingly staffs her BL manga booth, and even buys her a pink controller for her to play games in his apartment. He may seem monotonous on the outside, but with every little gesture Hirotaka shows Narumi how much he cares for her.
2/10 Toge Inumaki talks in rice ball ingredients
Due to his cursed speech, Toge Inumaki only speaks using ingredients found in rice bowls i Jujutsu Kaisen. This prevents him from accidentally cursing any of his friends. Although many of them have learned to understand his speech now, there are still others who have to rely on Inumaki’s actions to understand him.
Although it is strange to speak in food ingredients, it is also symbolic of his kind heart. Creating a whole new language, just so he doesn’t hurt others, shows determination that others wouldn’t show.
