Many anime characters are outgoing and can walk up to anyone to start a conversation. No one is a stranger to them and their people skills are second to none. However, just as many socially awkward anime characters struggle to read a room or second guess themselves every time they open their mouths.
They lack social skills. This does not always mean that they struggle with social anxiety or are introverted. In fact, some extroverts lack social skills because they can’t read a room and always make inappropriate comments at the worst times. Others, however, struggle to break out of their shell. In both cases, social interaction causes these characters great burdens.
